transportation back to the U.S.

Each meter of ice recovered is carefully measured, logged and packed for transportation at the end of the season back to the National Ice Core Laboratory in Denver, Colorado. Parts of the core may be too brittle for immediate transporation and must remain at the drill site for as long as a year before being flown out.
